Hopefully, our resident expert on All Things Buses, Mr. "L" might be able to tell us a little something about the company which operated that ancient TWIN...... Wink

The Twin is actually a Westchester Transportation (Surface) with an experimental paint scheme.

NEW YORK OMNIBUS 2629,

Your wish is my command!

Believe it or not this little pre war Twin Coach model 27G, which was one of fifty numbered 3000 to 3049 and delivered in increments between 1939 and 1942, was flagged for Surface Transportation System as operator but was owned by Third Avenue Railway System (TARS) subsidiary Westchester Street Transportation Company and operated in Westchester.

Seen brand new on the # 'C' Fifth Avenue Mount Vernon route is fleet # 3020.

The 27G's, while great runners, were rather awkward looking with the engine mounted directly above the rear axle which was located just forward of the bumper (unquestionably a liability in a rear end mishap).

Credit within frame.

Regards,

Mr. 'L'

Mr. "L":

As usual, you have MORE than "stepped up to the plate"! Wink

That is one BEAUTIFUL old photo; thanks for posting here! Smile

I well recall the gaggle of ancient TWINS (as a lad, I called them "Slant Backs"!) that I remember on some of the old Hudson County "indies", some 50-odd years ago.

They certainly had character and personality!

Again, greatly appreciate your taking the time to share some interesting historical info.....
