In the spirit of maintaining a good rapport with its riding public, the International Railway Company (IRC) of Buffalo, New York shows off its latest equipment in this 1939 photo taken in that sprawling upstate city's downtown.
The bus, one of fifty delivered between September and October of 1939, is a 20 passenger Mack Model 'Improved' CW3G which gained power from a 354 cubic inch, 100 hp. 6 cylinder gasoline engine mounted transversely at the rear and combined with a three speed mechanical transmission.
While the very popular model CW's seating capacity was low and ideal for use as a feeder to trunk lines for major operators, its underpinning were heavy duty, reliable and long lasting and over 1300 were sold between 1935 and 1943 with 370 to IRC alone.
Not that it would have mattered (or even have been understood) that much by John or Jane Q. Public but our focus also shows off its inner works with both its side and rear engine hatches open for inspection.
This CW model is called 'Improved' by Mack because its first version in 1935 carried its engine in a bustle behind the coach very much in the same manner as Dwight Austin's Utility Coach did (in fact, an exact copy of it).
