Gentlemen,
A complete listing of 'Buses Leased or Borrowed from Affiliated Companies 1985-1994' may be found on page 33 of the October/December 2000 issue of Motor Coach Age entitled 'New York City's Green Bus Lines' by Alan Bromberger (MHSRIP).
The list gives you the specially assigned (add a 1) fleet numbers and the dates that they were transferred - you might note that some of the borrowed buses made more than one appearance.
It's ironic that Green Line, who picked up Jamaica and Triboro literally out of the gutter in the 40's, found themselves with the tables reversed in later years and gladly accepting hand-outs especially from those two companies!
Regards,
Mr. 'L' |

I saw a picture on flickr today by ttmg that has MCI 701 next to a fishbowl with no AC but in the background I can also see either Orion 5501 or 5502 because of the black window borders so it could've been in the late 1990's but what's with the Non AC Fishbowl? It does seem to only have 1 Green Stripe on the side. There is another picture of RTS-03 1001 and 1004 with broken windows and next to it is another RTS but with a black stripe. |

Well the Classic has the post 2001 plates so its not from the 90's. I agree it must be that AC Transit bus because it is certainly not a Green Line bus. The fishbowl even looks like it has roof exhaust and I doubt they ever had a non A/C bus with roof exhaust. Nice find on both of those pics. Those 03 RTS buses were a trip. Loud and pretty fast but not as fast as the Canadian fishbowls. Both had 8 cyl. |

That non-air fishbowl seems to have an AC Transit (Oakland, Ca.) logo over the rear bumper but no AC Transit ever had that Green band.
However, Golden Gate Transit of San Francisco did (in that same shade) and it might be that AC bought it and eventually sold it through Hausman Bus Sales and it wound up at Green Line.
I guess that's as good of an explanation as any!

Mr. 'L' |

It is as good an explanation as any but GBL didn't have any of them on their property after the year 2000. That's not a GBL bus. |

No, 817 is a T6H4523N that was new to AC Transit in 1973. I can't find another rear end photo of an AC Transit Fishbowl, but they certainly had the green band along the sides that would have logically continued onto the back.
I found a post by Charlie Seaton from last May on the GMFishbowl Yahoo group with a couple more photos of 817 - at the Jamaica Buses garage with 3001, and in Times Square - probably on the same day. The bus was/is privately owned in upstate New York, and those are indeed Jersey plates in the photo. |

The RTS with the black stripe is 630-1 that was in Rockaway. It was held for shop use when the other borrowed RTS buses were disposed of. The photo was taken in what was GBL's junk lot on 147ave. Photo was taken after the QSC Orion V diesels and TMC's were transferred in 2000. 1001, 1004, 630-1 and whatever else in that yard where sent to scrap not long after being pulled off the road. The rest of the 1000 series buses went to Varsity in Brooklyn for storage. They were then sent to Rockaway for storage in 2003. I guess the plan was to use or sell the select few held and that plan was changed. They were ultimately junked in 2006. 1012 was held for driver training and special events. It was sent to Varsity in 2006 when the MTA Bus take over happened. 1002 was already gone when this all happened. 1007 was donated to the NYPD for training. |

Did any of the borrowed RTS-03 get the final 2 stripe GBL Paint Colors? because then what would the RTS next to 361 and 604-1 on those photos in the gallery be. If you look closely at the picture the end number looks like a 1. |

I don't see any number on the RTS. And don't forget, that picture had to be taken after the RTS-04 & 06's were delivered. 222-292, 10001(221), 601-622 were all there by 1988. The fishbowls did make the early 90's. |

Waynejay wrote: | Thanks a bunch for the roster. I have just a couple of things. As another poster noted that Grumman Flxible 870 #544-549 were bought second-hand. GBL original 870s were #550-589.
Also the '79 GMD T8H-5307A were actually numbered 355-364. |
Well yes and no...
Green 350-354 did in fact exist, at least as of delivery. They went to Triboro as 625-629 apparently without ever even seeing service at Green. Triboro got 10 5307's from the same order (615-624) and someobody decided Triboro needed 15 while Green cout get along with only 10. |

There is another picture of 1014 floating around the internet and one of 1013 as well. Both are from 1997. The 1013 shows a Single Green Stripe on the doors and shows the final GBL Paint scheme on the rest of the bus. 1014 still had 2 front stripes. Both images are on ebay. |
