Pictured below is Jamaica Buses # 504 - a C45-DT (Diesel Transit) delivered in 1949, and among the first order of Diesels for the company.
It was just about this time that Green Bus Lines acquired Jamaica as a subsidiary.
# 504 looks so brand new that I don't believe this bus had more than one mile on it when the photo was taken.
Also of interest in the photo is what appears to be a pre war Queens/Nassau (that's what it used to be called) ACF Brill (unfortunately, the wording in the destination sign is too vague to read).
Can you guess where this photo was taken?

Bob,
I don't know the answer except to say that it would probably have to have been at a point where both company's routes intersected, and I don't remember Jamaica Buses at Parsons and Hillside.
The Jamaica is signed for 'Jamaica Avenue' and 'Belmont Park' so it might have been anywhere along Jamaica Avenue, Jericho Turnpike or possibly Hempstead Turnpike.
It would be interesting if we could read the signage on the Queens Nassau.

That ACF looks rather primitive next to the Mack.
I always felt that Mack buses looked and sounded "tough" (especially the TA's C50 DT's, equipped with those cast steel spoke wheels.) |
