[Mr. Linsky]

Mickey Cohen was a West Coast gangster who partnered with Bugsy Siegel and palled around with everyone from Frank Sinatra to Richard Nixon.

At about 4:00 AM on July 20th. 1949, Mr. Cohen and three cohorts were ambushed as they drove up to the front of the infamous Sherry's Restaurant along Sunset Strip in the west Hollywood section of Los Angeles.

The car, a black 1949 Fleetwood 60 Special Cadillac, was riddled with bullets before the barrage ended but its occupants narrowly escaped death with only superficial wounds.

It was after this evening of mayhem that Mr. Cohen decided that his next car (a black 1950 Fleetwood 60 Special Cadillac) would be fitted to meet such challenges in the future.

Shown below in three poses after its bullet and bomb proofing is Mr. Cohen's new wheels.

Of note, aside from the thickness of the window glass, is the fact that the two piece windshield is openable probably for air but certainly for shooting back at enemy attackers!

Nice find! Back when Cadillac was 'The Standard of The World'.
The Cadillac that the President rides in nowadays has similar thickness windows but made of stronger polycarbonate.
