rwilenker,

It is a beautiful bus - the 4512's were almost like pieces of sculpture!

BTW; the photo brings out perfectly my observation that the one set of paired windows aft of the rear and emergency doors, at least on the 4500 series, are smaller than the three sets aft of the front door - it's not an optical illusion - notice that the standee glasses over them are also shorter.

Funny that after all these years of driving and dealing with these models, I should have only noticed this recently!

You learn something new every day! - I guess.

Regards,

Mr. 'L'

Speaking of windows, I wonder why GMC did not use the same set of windows on transits that they used on suburbans....why have those standee windows, when the suburban windows would serve that purpose and simplfy having just the one type?

traildriver,

I can think of one reason although it may not have been what GM had in mind;

The separation of the standee and passenger windows on the transits could certainly have added strength to the roof.

The drop sash sets on the suburbans I think were meant to give their passengers a less cluttered view of the landscape.

That's about all I can think of.

Regards,

Mr. 'L'

You may be correct on your guess, but it's one of those things that we will probably never know for sure....
I would guess that perhaps it was a way to keep the cost (of the transits) lower...
