Nice shot. I would like to go back a bit further though, when there were still trolley-buses leaving from Bridge Plaza.....
One thing around there that still hasn't changed...the original Peter Luger's steak house, offering what many consider the best Porterhouse in the world.... Smile

I've seen this picture before. Something tells me this wasn't during 1963 but a bit later. There is a large front ad on 7065. In 1963, the front ad racks were half that size.

Notice back then that the BMT trains had numbered routes rather than the lettered routes.

From that same website, here's something wayback at Williamsburg Bridge Plaza:

Though the streetcar was the subject of the photographer here, note the new-kid-on-the-block MACK in the right background, and the trolley bus behind the streetcar......

And what SWEET music it would make, too, intermingled with the equally sweet sounds of GMC's, MACKS, trolley buses, and BMT trains! Very Happy

Ahhhh, paradise! Very Happy

traildriver,,

Do me a favor! - don't spread the name Peter Luger's around too much - we regulars wouldn't want the whole world in on this little gem of a steak house.

I mean where else can you get saw dust floors and waiters that throw the food at you! - and what food it is!

Now well over one hundred years at the same old stand, its been my family's place for steak for the past four generations!

Regards,

Mr. 'L'

Frankie,

I think these were the same cars that we used to ride from Kew Gardens to Jamaica on Metropolitan Avenue to take in a movie at the Valencia back in the forties.

As I remember, they had shiny wooden slat bench seating running longitudinally and the ride was really smooth.

Oh boy - I wish it was still 1948!

Regards,

Mr. 'L'

Another vignette of dear ol' Brooklyn, as it was; though GMC's are clearly visible, if you look closely behind the streetcar, you'll see a MACK just edging into the picture.

Aaaahhh, those were the days.......

Sorry, Mr. 'L', but thanks to its consistent top rating in the Zagat Survey, the whole world already is in on it.... Smile
