Help ! I seem to remember a company located in Westchester (or maybe one county further north) called Mayflower Coach from the early 1960's. I believe they may have run express runs into Manhattan and private charters. Yes ??? |

I found the name Mayflower Coach Corp. and Mayflower Transit Lines of Peekskill, NY under GM bus delivery lists in the 1970's. Anyone know of this company ? |

my father worked for Mayflower Coach in the 1980's. They always had a nice fleet of previuosly owned buses, including a Scenicruiser. They also eventually spun off Happy Time Charter. I believe the yard was in Mamaroneck, NY. I have a bunch of old pictures of their buses. Craig Weiss |

IF my memory is correct, during the summer of 1960 the LIRR was shut down with a four week strike. Mayflower Coach (of Peekskill ?) and Sunrise Coach Lines of Greenport received a temporary operating authority to provide service from Manhattan to the east end of Long Island. They used the Port Authority bus terminal as the NYC terminus. Lots of work for the part-time drivers at Sunrise (my father among them). I remember seeing one of the Mayflower Coach buses one time, I believe it was GMC 4104, can't recall the colors. Sunrise ran whatever was available. Also recall the family name of the Mayflower owner as Schiavone (?). |
