|
|
Yesterday I received the March 1999 issue of Bus World that I had won on E-bay. There is an article devoted to the NYCTA Museum buses as constituted back then.
As an aside, there is a short mention of a Liberty Lines TDH 5105 that was preserved in the original Red and White colors. The bus is next to a modern building near, I believe, La Guardia Airport. I have seen this picture before and believe that many of you also have viewed it.
My question is what happened to this bus in the intervening years, since I've never saw it at Bus Fest in lower Brooklyn, nor ever discussed on any boards. ? |

That is Liberty Lines bus # 748. It is still sitting in the Liberty Lines garage, preserved, in Yonkers, N.Y. along with Bee Line #170, one of their 1979 RTS's.

Liberty Lines (Yonkers, NY) # 748 is still very much alive and has been spotted more than once at antique rallies in Manhattan.
In another recent thread I mistakenly identified # 748 as an ex Surface Transportation System of New York (STS) 1952 GM TDH 5104 when in actuality it is an ex Columbus Transit Company (Ohio) 1958 TDH 5105 and the 748 was its original Columbus number.
When Liberty first came upon # 748 in the late sixties, they thought it would look good in STS's trademark angels wings and bib design and it did but later down the road they changed it to their own livery scheme.
The photo of 748 (along with FACCO # 3100) at LaGuardia Airport in Queens mentioned in an earlier post on this thread is seen below and has been borrowed for educational purposes only.
