Seen below and standing at rest somewhere in picturesque Lewiston, Maine is fleet # 117 - a 1941 Yellow Coach Model TG 2701 and one of an unknown number operating for the Lewiston-Auburn Transit Company of Lewiston, Maine.
The light duty 27 passenger rear engined 2701's, of which nearly 800 were built between 1940 and 1942, were ideal in low volume operation and offered as power either a 270 cubic-inch GM 6 cylinder gasoline engine or a 3 cylinder, 2 cycle, 3-71 by Detroit Diesel.
The twin cities of Lewiston and Auburn located about one hundred miles southwest of Bangor and separated by the meandering Androscoggin River saw traction lines as early as 1897 and from 1919 to 1941 were served by the Androscoggin & Kennebec Railway Co. which was then replaced by the buses of Lewiston-Auburn Transit.
Of note in the photo are the overhead traction wires that have yet to be removed.
Photo credit within frame and is up for bid on eBay as item # 190647596704
