Gritty, grimy, and always a-bustlin'.......enjoy this rare 1930's view of Atlantic Avenue!

If I'm guessing correctly, the bus is a Twin Coach MODEL 30.....

I wonder if the bus is a westbound B12. Note the raised crossing gates. Note the diagonal path of East New York Avenue.

Subchat currently hosts a thread titled Atlantic Avenue, which describes the assignment of trains to the three platforms and six tracks above. I am quite certain that is a Canarsie-bound train. El trains from the busy Fulton Street service used inner tracks. With the shift from Fulton Street el to Independent Fulton Street subway, I believe the Atlantic Avenue complex lost much of its foot traffic, and Broadway Junction (Bwy-ENY) gained importance.

Joe.....

Appreciate this additional info!

Though no date was given for this rare old photo, judging by the vehicles, it is clear that it dates to the 1930's, possibly around 1934/35.

I know that the Twin Coach MODEL 30 first went into production in 1931.

Perhaps Mr. "L" will be able to provide us with more info.....

You're both correct about being a Twin Coach Model 30. 337 was one of 74 1931 models acquired by the Brooklyn Bus Company. All had seating capacity for 27 passengers.

Coincidentally, the 12 ENY route was also new when these buses were acquired - starting up on November 23, 1931.

Frankie:

Thanks for this additonal info!

According to William A. Luke's "FAGEOL & TWIN COACH BUSES", 900 MODEL 30 coaches were built between 1930 and 1935......

NEW YORK OMNIBUS 2629 et al,

Other than the fact that the photo is great, I have no comment because you've all gotten your facts straight and I'm very proud of you!

Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing.

Regards,

Mr. 'L'

Mr. "L":

Such a compliment (and from such a highly respected expert in the field, no less!), is indeed a great honor, sir!

Thought you'd enjoy this nostalgic vignette of "Olde Noo Yawk"! Very Happy
