Shown below in a photo taken sometime in the late forties is fleet # 1298 - a 1942 White Motor Company Model 782 (ser# 235544) and the only one of its kind operating for the Philadelphia Transportation Company (PTC) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
White built just over 400 of the 32 passenger 782's between 1940 and 1946 which featured the company's work horse 140TA six cylinder truck engine mounted underfloor amidships with the cooling radiator and fan located behind a grill over the front bumper.
These small capacity but nevertheless powerful coaches were ideal for low volume feeder routes and on hilly terrain.
# 1298 originally came to PTC as a demonstrator and liked it so much that it stayed and became the only White bus ever to be operated by the company and is seen at the Frankford Avenue Depot along with a few of the thirty or so lightweight Ford Transits (stage left) also used on lower volume routes.
