These buses (Fleet Numbers 5001-5065) were the first 40 foot 96" wide TH-8603 RTS-II buses manufactured for the NFTA by General Motors in late 1978. D-DOT of Detroit got the first 102" wide units (TH-8203). In 1980, the NFTA ordered several more (fleet numbers 5066-5078), this time, equipped with rear door wheelchair lifts and were easily identified with a large blue wheelchair decal on the lower right side of the bus next to the fleet number. These were also the last buses painted in the yellow and black "Metro Bus" livery of the 1970s as the 6000-series RTS-04s that succeeded them were the first painted in the new "Earth Tone" livery.

Nice shot of a fairly large (this year, anyway) transit system that gets very little coverage in the forums or in print. More photos if you have them would be welcome, especially before half of your service is discontinued next year.
