Does anybody have an idea what the Pace Orion Is are doing at the repair shop at said intersection? One of them is numbered 8864. They are driven along Vanderbilt Av and are usually empty

Sounds like one of the buses that run express subscription service from Borough Park to B&H and the Diamond District.

B&H Photo & Video is at Ninth Avenue and West 37th Street, and the Diamond District is the area around Sixth Avenue and West 47th Street, where most of the City's fine jewelry wholesalers are located. There is a company that provides express service from Borough Park to these places. I think it's subscription-based service, meaning you sign up for it by the month and get a pass, rather than just boarding and paying a fare each day.
