All:
Just came across these two vintage "Noo Yawk" photos; clearly, these ancient coaches are awaiting scrapping.
These historic buses certainly would certainly make for outstanding museum pieces today!
No location data or other info was given with these old views.
How casually history has been discarded throughout the years!

NYO,
Interesting images of two of the seventy-five 1939 Mack 'Improved' (the 'Improved' being the addition of an angled windshield) Model CT-3G's numbered from 900 to 974 originally delivered to the Brooklyn Bus Corporation but inherited by the city in its takeover of the company in 1940.
This order of CT's had a two fold purpose in both putting Brooklyn's best foot forward in World's Fair service and as replacement for aging Macks from earlier in the thirties.
While the CT model was notoriously underpowered, it was still pretty popular among operators including Green Bus Lines (NY) with 100 on their roster alone.
You would think with over six-hundred built between 1935 and 1940 that there might be one or two still hanging around but, according to MBS's Directory of Preserved Coaches, not one CT survives.
'C'est la vie!'
Regards,
Mr. 'L'

Mr. "L".....
As, always, I greatly appreciate your historical data and added trivia.....seems to be no bottom to your "fount of knowledge"!
Seeing these old MACKS bring back so many great old memories of the early to mid-60's, when ancient, prewar coaches could still be found on the job for the old "Joisey" indy companies.
As I've related awhile back in another thread, the long-defunct WASHINGTON STREET lines in Hoboken (NJ) were still operating some true antiques, when I was a young lad.....the now-historic coaches indeed had PERSONALITY, something totally lacking in today's ho-hum, lookalike equipment!
Funny.....remember when we still had a "love/hate" relationship with the NEW LOOKS when they started to become more commonplace in the mid and late 60's....by themselves, they were were STUNNING coaches.....one that truly caught the eye and offered a new type of excitement to bus fans......we LOVED them.....and yet, at the SAME time, looked upon them as the ENEMY, when they enabled the retirement of so much of the truly "classic" (and beloved) equipment!
The old NORTH HUDSON BOULEVARD fleet, with which I bonded at a very early age, operated a truly diverse fleet through the mid-60's; various models of both YELLOW and GM Old Looks, as well as several models of WHITES and MACKS certainly made for some VERY interesting "bus watching", back in my day!
By about 1967/68, the last of the WHITES and the MACKS had been replaced with New Looks, along with the oldest of the OLD LOOKS.
Through the 70's, the number of "BOULEVARD" Old Looks continued to dwindle, until, by the early 80's, two or three remained in service.
The very last of them were gone by about 1986.
Today, even the once-commonplace NEW LOOK is but a fond memory.....

Though I've posted the link for this truly heartwarming (at least, to me!) photo from 1964, I felt it appropriate to share once again here.
Journal Square was then the hub of Jersey City, always hustlin' and bustlin'!
This classic scene is one that I grew up with; countless times during my childhood, Mom and I would board one of these classic old relics for our trip home to Union City!
The MACK is signed for the #1 LOCAL, whose northern terminus was Nungessers (North Bergen); this was the line Mom and I would ride on back home from the Square....the stop was just a few steps from our old apartment building on 13th St.!
The WHITE is operating on the #5, which ran to the PABT; this route, too, passed by our building, and we often rode it into the city.
The "5" placard in the windshield of the WHITE was then standard operating practice on that line; these cards were also displayed in the rear windows.
The Old Look to the rear is also signed for the #1.
The H&M/PATH "tubes" ran directly beneath this massive viaduct; their station was adjacent.
The electrified PRR freight tracks also ran down below.
Far too much has changed since this timeless view was snapped......

This photo seems to be from the same "series" as the first two I discovered for this thread; bus is No. D-1175.
Roller curtain is still set for:
18-WYKOFF AVE./GRAHAM AVE.
Another vintage coach MORE than worthy of preservation.....

An "old-timey" winter scene, possibly taken after the infamous Blizzard of 1947.
Here we see No. D-1234 negotiating a snow-slogged street; note destination curtain reads:
"NO PASSENGERS"/"UTICA AVENUE"
Note, though, riders are aboard, despite the "NO PASSENGERS" sign....perhaps these fellows might have been "company men" getting a lift to the garage......

Just came across this interesting photo, which also appears in Guy E. Martin's "NEW YORK CITY TRANSIT BUSES".....
This is a fine portrait of TDH-4510 No.4024, at the Williamsburg Bridge Plaza in 1949; using the TDH-4509 as a prototype, GM designated this bus specifically for New York.
It featured the paired windows of the 4509, but was 102 inches wide, making it GM's first 102-inch bus.
The BOARD OF TRANSPORTATION ordered 500 of them, all assigned to Brooklyn routes.
Note that the BOARD OF TRANSPORTATION insignia has yet to be affixed to the sides of the bus.
This is just the type of vintage coach I picture having our old pal "Ralph Kramden" pilot through the busy streets of ol' Noo Yawk!

The "END OF THE LINE" for this shiny new St. Louis Brooklyn trolley bus was still many years in the future, when this photo was taken in 1948, at the sprawling St. Louis plant.
Coach is aboard a flat car, ready for the long trip east.
Note PCC streetcar on flat car just behind......

NEW YORK OMNIBUS 2629,
Funny that you should find # 629 (below) carrying the Flag of Triboro Coach Corporation - but, if you look real carefully amidships (with a microscope) you will see 'Owner Green Bus Lines, Inc.'
# 629 and several other 1937 and 1938 CT Macks were loaned to Triboro during the early fifties to help fill in their depleted fleet.
The bus retained its original Green Line livery and, to my knowledge, was never returned to its parent company.
BTW; the Subway listing has mistaken 629 for a model CW.
Regards,
Mr. 'L'
