NEW YORK OMNIBUS 2629,

Here's one from 1950 that you'd only find in my personal collection thanks to GBL Rebel.

It's December as noted by the Christmas tree standing behind a row of brand new GM TDH 4509's just delivered to Green Bus Lines of Jamaica, New York.

All thirty-five couldn't fit into the frame which was taken in front of Queens Borough Hall on Queens Boulevard in Kew Gardens.

You'll notice the large sign stretched between the two center buses which was displayed on the trip from Pontiac and which boasted of the new GM Diesels heading for Queens County New York's Green Bus Lines.

Production of the updated 4509 model was so backed up that GM ran out of delivery chauffeurs and, by special arrangement between Amalgamated Local 1179 and the United Auto Workers Union, Green Line dispatched fifteen drivers and one mechanic to Pontiac, Michigan to pick up almost half of the order.

P.S.; the buses ran so well that they really didn't need the mechanic!

Regards,

Mr. 'L'

Mr. "L":

Like "Felix the Cat" (remember him?), there seems to be NO LIMIT as to the many wonderful surprises you pull out from your "back of tricks"! Very Happy

An OUTSTANDING photo, you may be sure.....if I may ask a favor of you, sir, could you also post this in my New York thread?

Thanks!

Great photo Mr.L.
NYO...Interesting that whoever labeled the photo felt the need to emphasize "Diesel Engines". Then I see on the link that they were Charlotte's first buses with diesel engines.

Funny....I thought the SAME thing!

NO WONDER they felt the need to emphasize "DIESEL"!

Indeed, it was the dawn of a new era in Charlotte when the diesel coaches entered service!

Interestingly enough, I found the Slope-backed RTS in the Fishbowl photo from 1974 rather amusing.
