In a photograph taken in the mid fifties, we see a 'Flying Bus' (not a bad idea for Manhattan!) operating for the Aerial Mt. Hood Skyway Bus Company and shuttling skiers between the Timberland Hotel and the slopes of Mt. Hood in Parkdale, Oregon.
I have little information as to who manufactured this 36 passenger vehicle but do have reason to believe that it was self propelled judging by its strange 'Rube Goldbergish' cable configuration.
A short You Tube presentation also below will give you a better idea of how it worked and the fact that it did require a driver.

I'm guessing that this concept fell out of favor due to the fact that each vehicle was self-propelled - you couldn't just send out the wrecker to get it when it broke down! |

What a great find, thanks for the link!
I also enjoyed the cab ride aboard the Morning Twin Zephyr in the same issue.... |
