About six or seven years ago, I attended a public forum on extending a subway line to LaGuardia. The forum was held at the Museum of the Moving Image. There were handouts and presentations. Overwhelmingly, the crowd disliked extending the Astoria el east to the airport, either above the Grand Central Parkway from Hoyt Avenue or bending the el east from its present terminal at Ditmars Blvd. Few approved new el trackage for even one block.
----
Another proposal at the meeting (if memory is correct) was a subway route from the 63rd Street tunnel, follow the Hell Gate Bridge route until it gets near the Bklyn Queens Expressway, then follow the eastern fork to LGA. I recall that the Borough President of Queens was there, and it seemed that she would assist nothing helping residents of other boroughs at the expense of her constituents.
----
On the other hand, I praise whoever it was that "invented" the M60 service and continued to improve its route and frequency. The connections with 125 Street rail terminals (Lex, MN, Lenox, et al.) help Bronx, Westchester, and upper Manhattan residents. It was a smart move.
----
As far as running SBS through East Elmhurst, Good Luck! Count the traffic signals and note the double-parkers.

Agreed. The streets surrounding LGA (with the possible exception of Astoria Blvd) are ill-suited for SBS operations.
