For busfans, we definitely are entering some interesting times at NYCT/MTAB.
New Flyer is now back in the mix with CNG and diesel 40-footers.
Nova is delivering 40' and 62' buses in some big orders (current and upcoming).
Prevost is delivering X3-45's.
Orion is delivering 90 clean diesel Orion VII NG's.
Get your pix while you can for RTS's, Orion V's, etc. |

From looking at other bus websites and info posted at MTA's website, it appears that 30 of each of the following buses will be purchased and put in service at CAS, QV and UP:
Nova LFS (already being delivered)
NF XD40LF (Xcelsior)
Orion VII NG diesel
According to MTA's website, this 90 bus pilot program will give MTA very good insight into what buses should be purchased in large numbers during the upcoming years.
I suppose the rationale for selecting CAS, QV and UP involves local routes, traffic density, and types of buses currently in use.
Each new bus can be evaluated against existing buses in head to head tests if desired. For example, Nova RTS's are in service at QV and UP, Orion VII OG HEV's are in service at QV, and Orion V's and Orion VII NG HEV's are in service at CAS. Each new bus can be compared in service to assess availability, downtime, road calls, fuel consumption, costs of operation and maintenance, etc.
Should be an interesting set of studies.
May the best buses win! |

That should be 90 of each bus will be purchased (30 buses/depot). |
