This is another old thread, but new and nostalgic for me!
I remember that they used the glass-top suburbans on the "$3.00 Grand Tour",as indicated on the sign. I believe Gray Line or American Sightseeing in New York may have got some of them.
The transits ran on free shuttles from the outer parking lots along Meadow Lake to the entrance. In addition, they ran on route 1 and route 2, one of which did a clockwise circle of the entire perimeter road and the other counterclockwise (I forgot which number was which).
There were one or two other 'rapid transit' routes. All those charged a quarter.
The trams were called "Glide-A-Rides". I think they also charged a quarter.
The "Escorters" were rented by the hour for around $9.00 IIRC.

After the fair was over, several of those "Go Greyhound..." musical horns ended up in some of the company Chevys that were used by traveling passenger agents, and I'll wager that more than one of 'em ended up in the private vehicles of employees.

When I was a high school junior, we would walk from my house to the outer lot at Meadow Lake, and ride the free shuttle to the gate. These were the first air-conditioned transit buses I rode in Queens.
