Observing MTA's latest local bus procurement moves with NovaBus, it appears that no more high-floors will be bought. This isn't news, since the last high floor local buses purchased by DOB were NF artics in 2003. What makes me wonder, however, is that the Novas are all clean diesel buses, nd do not use alternative fuel powertrains.
Question: is DOB a little frustrated with HEV and CNG buses? |

There are a couple of additional poiunts to make on this subject.
1. CNG buses tend to be heavy and have higher first cost than equivalent clean diesel buses.
2. HEV buses similarly are heavy and are much more costly to purchase than comparable clean diesel units.
Thee facts may help explain NYCT's renewed interest in diesel buses. |
