Frankie here: I know this is a bit of an unusual subject than the norm that we see there, but I've always been curious about the fonts used on the roof line that were introduced with the TDH-5301 new looks in 1959 and eventually used on all buses at that time. Does anyone know the actual name of the font?

I've always thought this was unique to New York on both NYCTA and MABSTOA buses, but to my surprise I found out that we were not the only one using it. Albuquerque is another one with some very slight modifications. One wonders if there are others.

Photos used for educational purposes only. Credit goes to Joseph Testagrose for the NYC buses and Bill Luke/Linda Metler from their book Old Look Buses for the Albuquerque buses.

Frankie -

It is a SOMETHING OR OTHER, SANS SERIF, ITALIC SCRIPT? Hey! I'm not a practicing Graphics Artist
in my other time on this little machine! <G>

IMHO. I like it. Has touches of MODERNE to it. Beats me what to call it!

Actually, I think it's an interesting and plainly readable cross between block letters and script although I find nothing like it on any of the sample sites.

Maybe a local artist came up with it.

Regards,

Mr. 'L'
