I know that CTTransit wants to update its fareboxes to a new design, I don't know when it's happening, though. |

I have seen the farebox replacement listed on a ConnDOT capital expenditure proposal for 2011. The estimated price tag on the project is around $10 million, so obtaining funding is the key issue. There were questions raised a couple of years ago about having fareboxes that would be compatible with MetroCard.
The state is also working on a proposal to update the radio system for the bus fleet, including adding radios to the Waterbury and New Britain buses as well.

Our maintenance training for the Xcelsiors started yesterday at the Hamden facility. Here are some pictures of 1023, which is the bus we are using.

Well I have this problem with New Flyer and the fact we have to stretch over people in order to pull the cord in the front at the wheelwell. Tell them about putting a stop button around there. |
Daniel,
Apparently, somebody made New Flyer aware of this problem. As you can see from this picture, the pull cord on the Xcelsior has been extended, with a cord placed forward of the first passenger seat, so that you don't have to reach over the passenger next to you. This is the right side, and the left side is set up the same way.

Thanks for the pics Bill. But I still think CT Transit and New Flyer needs to add buttons in the front wheelwell area and not just an extension of the window. I dunno if the button is much more expensive than the cord, but in the end it is a good investment. |

Maybe I just realize this but Oh Sh*t. This bus was meant for Waterbury. A fellow bus enthusiast pointed that out. I know Bill talked about it but I thought they were training the Waterbury crew for the Xcelsiors in general. That means some 35 footers are going to float to New Haven? I mean there are 14 40' hybrids, 17 35' hybrids, and 17 35' diesels with this order. So with 1023 destined for Waterbury and not New Haven, what is going to happen with this order? Interesting. |
