i was just talking to one of the trainers at the hartford garage and he told me that the artic buses for Hartford will be in sometime in late December early January, however they will not be in service till sometime in March because it will take about 2 month to train all 300+ drivers in the buses so i guess it wont be till next spring befored we actually drive the artic buses in Hartford

Sad they're going to sit at James St or Leibert Road for 4 months until the spring time.

Beautiful! Just beautiful. I'm glad that they went with cushion seats in the trailer section. Kinda made sense since most of the bus is low to the suspensions. Thanks for the pics amorek.

Curious that CT Transit decided to go with 2x2 seating throughout much of the bus - I would think they'd put in some 2x1 seating in the front section to allow for more standees and better passenger flow.

for some reason i am not happy about the seat right behind the driver,

looks like we will be able to control all the outside mirrors, no more running back and forth

amorek,

The guys are right - the photos are fantastic and they are great looking buses.

My only concern would be with the divider mat (as pictured) and the possibility that a passenger might trip where the corners rise up toward the rear.

I know it's a long shot but taking a modified version of Murphy's Law into consideration; "anything that can happen, will happen"!

Now, as Lt. Columbo would say; just one more question;

How does that mat negotiate the turns? - I'm sure that is doesn't scrunch up - forgive my ignorance but I have no experience with Artics!

Regards,

Mr. 'L'

Amorek,

Thanks for posting these pictures. Some great shots!

My first thought was about the expense of replacing the one piece windshield.

What do you think about the numerous overhead switches and other controls? Our drivers complain about having to reach up to change the destination sign, I can't imagine how they would handle something like this.

I believe that their intention was to maximize seating capacity, although I agree with you that more standees and better passenger flow would have been the way to go, given that the routes where these buses will be used will be busy with a lot of on and off activity.

I also can envision a passenger getting off the step from the seats by the articulating section and slipping.

Hopefully, I will be able to check these buses out in the next couple of weeks, as I may be attending a "kick the tires" session when the first Xcelsior arrives.

Bill

i personally hate overhead switches, but most of them are for roof vents and something else cant remember now, for the sing that sucks my personal opinion, from what i can see from the switches for the door opening there is a switch i think so you can be able to turn off the rear door from opening, and there is a lot of talk that safety department will as the driver to not open last door, cause they are afraid of ppl sneaking in
