Am trying to find some more detail on the engines & transmissions used by the "private" companies & now MTA Bus:

RTS Engine 6v-92 = 6 cyl, Detroit Diesel, OK but what else ?
RTS Trans V731 RH = Allison, RH indicates the direction of the tails angle,
but weight, torque, etc. ?

RTS CNG engine: L10 ???
RTS CNG Trans: ZF ???

Orion engine: S-50, i.e. Series 50 = Detroit Diesel, 4 cylinder ... plus ... ?
Orion trans: B400 = Allison, streight, less weight then V731 .... ?

Orion CNG engine: John Deer ????
Orion CNG trans w/above same B400 ?

Cruiser engine: S-60 = DD or C13 Catipiller 6 cycl ???
Cruiser trans: B500 = Allison ????

Orion Hybrid engine: ISB = Cummins ???
Orion Hybrid trans: BAE ?????

RTS Engine Detroit Diesel 6v92 (6 cyl), Series 50 (4cyl)
RTS Trans Allison V730/731, VR-731

RTS CNG engine: Cummins L10G (6-cyl)
RTS CNG Trans: ZF Ecomat 5HP-590

Orion engine: Detroit Diesel Series 50. (4-cyl)
Orion trans: Allison B400R

Orion CNG engine: John Deere (6 cyl) AND Detroit Diesel Series 50 G (4 cyl)
Orion CNG trans: Allison B400R

Cruiser engine: Deroit Diesel Series 60 (6-cyl) and Caterpillar C13 (6 cyl)
Cruiser trans: Allison B500R.

Orion Hybrid engine: ISB = Cummins ISC (6 cyl)....also found on Dodge Ram pickup trucks....how embarrassing.
Orion Hybrid trans: BAE HybriDrive.

Regarding the RTS Allison Trans: V730, V731, VR-731
Is the VR-731 (V-731 RH) the only angle version ?

Regarging the RTS CNG Trans: ZF Ecomat 5HP 590
Ecomat is the mfg ? What's the 5HP & 590 stand for ?

Regarding the Orion Hybrid Trans: BAE HybriDrive
HybriDrive is the mfg ?

VR = V type tranny with retarder, V = V type tranny with no retarder. I don't know if VR731 and VR731RH are the same though, I don't think they are. RH means the output shaft of the tranny is to the right I think. I don't think the rotation direction has anything to do with the presence of a retarder.

Also the serial number 6V-92TA broken down is 6 cylinders in a V configuration at 92 cubic inches per cylinder with a Turbocharger Application.

So what's the serial codings for the 6v53, 6v71 and L, 8v71, 8v92, and the 12v71TT?

So what's the serial codings for the 6v53, 6v71 and L, 8v71, 8v92, and the 12v71TT?


6V-53 = 6cyl, V config, 53 ci per cyl (Series 53)

6V-71 = 6cyl, V, 71 ci per cyl (Series 71)

6L-71 = 6cyl, inline (I believe either L or I can be used in the serial number or it can even just be 6-71)

8V-71 = 8cyl, V, 71 ci per cyl

8V-92 = 8cyl, V, 92 ci per cyl (Series 92)

12V-71TT = 12cyl, V, 71 ci per cyl. I hope TT is not a typo where it should say TA, as I don't know what TT means actually.

TT is nowhere near a typo.

I've seen a few Youtube vids of those 12v71TTs, I swear, those are monsters.

I can imagine brand new Orion 5s with those huge exhaust pipes and those engines!!!

I doubt if there ever was a 12v92, since it would be severely too loud....LOL
