In 60 days, Trailways and Greyhound will vacate the 47 year old Midtown Plaza terminal for a temorary facility to be housed in the old main Post Office building right near the Amtrak Station on Central Avenue, thus putting the two stations less than a block from each other. The Rennaisance Square project is dead as a dodo bird, at least that is how Monroe County Executive Maggie (Maggot) Brooks sees it.

The Renaissance Square project is officially dead:

DemocratandChronicle.com - RenSquare project collapses from lack of consensus

RGRTA will move forward with alternate plans to build a new bus station next to the H.H. Warner building on St. Paul St.

Is that going to be only for RTS buses?

Democrat and Chronicle - Rochester bus terminal plans unveiled

At 73,000 square feet with 26 bus bays, the terminal is smaller than the 30-bay center that had previously been envisioned for the Mortimer Street site.

Modifications that include enclosing the terminal with skylights, leaving a narrowed Mortimer Street open to motorists, and a bus turnaround within the transit center footprint were incorporated to make the project more publicly palatable.

Gone is an overhead concourse crossing Mortimer Street, and the terminal has been pulled back from the sidewalks of St. Paul Street to the west and North Clinton Avenue to the east.

Gotta love this quote from the article:

I guess the only 'change' Mr. DeMarzo would be happy with is having the bus terminal located somewhere else in the city.

We can't call him a NIMBY, though, since there are no back yards on Mortimer Street in downtown Rochester - I guess that mkes him a NIMPLND (Not In My Parking Lot Next Door).

The Rochester City Council approved the plan on June 15th, although it appears some revisions may still be made:

Democrat and Chronicle - Vote means OK for Rochester transit center

At least one person gets it:

Heidi Zimmer-Meyer, president of the Rochester Downtown Development Corp., was the lone speaker in favor of the transit center. But she urged council to include more information on air quality, to extend the transit center to St. Paul Street and to eliminate an on-site employee parking lot for RGRTA.

"The cost of voting no is, in the end, far greater than the cost of voting yes. We cannot afford to wait years to (reinvigorate) Main Street," Zimmer-Meyer said.
