I knew they were replacing the windows. When I saw one of those buses I was saying to myslef that they must have changed those windows because they look clean. Why dont they change the windows from there style to the NYCTA style?

However, when many of the former GBL (and the former TCC ones that were repainted and not retaped) O5s have gone in for repainting (and it looks as though repainting is being done at Kennedy), windows are also being replaced along with new paint being applied.

Since JFK is repainting their buses, that will explain the spaced out numbering:

However, all along they been getting LED turn lights on the top. On the other hand I think it most likely be the only 1 like that and it may be put back

I might have seen one repaint where the old non-LED turning lights on top were retained.

Has anybody seen MTA Bus 7253?  That was originally TCC 3039 with the Orange Destination Sign.  I saw it in CP Depot a while back still in its red scheme awaiting a repaint but I have not seen it since.
I'm also wondering if the Orange Destination Signs are still in tact?  I saw 737-Ex Command 4961 and it now has the regular signs back in it.  I'm guessing 7253 is the same.  But where is it?

That bus had a broken Orange sign the last time I saw it (a little before take over). They might have replaced the sign. I'm not sure.

« Reply #515 on: September 29, 2006, 10:30:27 PM »

I've noticed that on the Orion V CNG's, if the stripe is a dark blue, it's a repaint.  If it's a light blue (such as on the College Point Orion V CNG's) then it's just a tape.  I've noticed that a lot of the ex-TCC Orion V CNG's have been repainted, while some haven't.  Those that haven't didn't originally have the black trim on them.  Though, on some of the ex-TCC Orion V CNG's that have been repainted, they aren't a full repaint, they only repainted the bus from the top of the windows down, leaving the top rim and the CNG tank covers as is (besides some white paint touch ups to some scratches that I saw on some).

There are some original College Point buses that have been repainted, though I forget the numbers.

Also, I did notice a ex-TCC Orion V CNG running on the QM1A earlier this evening with the rear of its CNG tank covers missing, exposing the tanks and it roof chassis.  Once again, missed the number...

I think it was 9934,9935, 9936 (I'm not sure) but notice that they did the same to a few JFK Orion V's even though majority was repainted.

Unless someone actually provides some proof, we can't confirm it just yet.

I hope they kept the LED signs, and actually fixed them so that it no longer has to be only half-operational.

Well, you can get closer to the ex-TCC Orion V CNG's being completely repainted, just spotted #7248 running on NIS on the QM4/Jewel Ave. corridor late this afternoon.  #7248 looks to be a *complete* repaint, CNG tank covers, roof and all!

And as Petabread mentioned, #5971 is repainted also, spotted it on the Q37 earlier this evening.

Saw 747 today and it looks like how the Ex Triboro O5 CNG's are getting repainted. NICE!

DAMN! So that is pretty much it now! I do have to say that they did a great job on repainting the Ex Triboro O5 CNG's as they look much better then before.

7858 ex LLE does not exist. That bus was in service barely a month after the take over and got retired for a bad motor. That bus was never repainted, and I saw it at Nimco.

Use 2 of these pics as reference

You know something. I'm very tempted to do this but I'm not sure if you guys would like it. Since NYCT is repainting the buses as well, why not combine this list since this is ALL under the MTA. If you guys like that, then I'll change the subject of the thread to make it much more understanding. Here we go:

As of October 23, 2006:

1988-1989 MCI Classic Suburban TC-40102A (25): 5887, 7335, 7344, 7400, 7407-7416, 7829, 7868, 7888, 7897-7899, 7901-7905

So far, the Orion 07.501 Low Floor CNGs and Hybrids have not been repainted but they do have those small numbers. I've seen a few Hybrids that have them and ONLY 2 CNGs. I wil not post those on here UNLESS if you guys want me too.

In the meantime, tell me what you guys think about this. Please be gentle with your comments. Thank you.

Enjoy!!!

I'd keep the NYCT buses out of it.  I looked to this thread for infornation on buses that now have the MTA white and blue when they formerly had the colors of their respective private bus line.  The NYCT buses that are being repainted have no real change to their livery; they are still white and blue other than some minor acute changes to paint around windows.

Keep it MTA Bus.

I second that.  You can have that list too, but keep NYCT and MTA Bus Seperate so that we know which is which.  Heck, I'll start it up for you.

You can now close off all ex-TCC's fleet of Orion V CNG's!  Just spotted #7243 today running northbound on Jewel Ave. on the Q65A, all bright and shiny from its paint job.  Even has a full rear add on it, too, the Spanish radio station with those two guys, says "Vacilion" I believe it is or so.

So... Triboro's Orion V CNG's have gone the way of Queens Surface's, fleet: A memory of the past.

Oh yeah, I win in spotting it!  :-p

2002 MCI D4500 Cruiser (6): 7423-7428

Thanks to "Green_713" for his input on this list. I saw that bus last Saturday afternoon. Keep those repainted buses coming!

Now it's just Spring Creek's Orion 05.501 CNGs and then we are set.

Enjoy!

The Horizon sign is intact, but not working.  I saw 7253 earlier tonight.

The sign is now working. Saw it yesterday afternoon on the QM2 and today on the QM1A Downtown.
