Ouch it must have obviously been rushed, that sucks, maybe they can fix it later in the future.

5939 has been repainted, its missing side logos and looks identical to the rest of the buses now (too bad), here is a photo of it from pre repaint and one after repaint. Photos By: Me (Charles Ali)

You'd figure they would fix the sign as well.  The bus looked better in green.

A couple of questions?

1) Why are some buses painted and others just taped?
2) Why do they cover up the back blinking brake lights?
3) Also the picture above shows two reflectors that were also removed.

Only the Orion V CNGs from Queens Surface were retaped; all other buses were fully repainted. I guess that the QSC livery was easier to cover up by just applying tape rather than repainting the entire bus.

3) Also the picture above shows two reflectors that were also removed.

Answer to question one I guess

http://forum.bustalk.net/index.php/topic,1938.0.html

Answer to question 2

I believe they wanted a uniformed look (without decel light) I thought they were good and helpful but I guess its two less lights to replace.

Answer to 3

I guess they wanted to respray the whole body of the bus and therefore removed the reflectors.

Yea I actually noticed that with a lot of the buses lately. I wonder what they do with it, if the MTA was smart and wanted to make some money (which I would think they would want to), they can sell it in the surplus thing(with a proof of what bus it came from etc but thats just an idea).

But it has also been NYCTA policy for a long time to NOT have the manufacturer name on the nose of the bus (and this may be extended to MTA Bus). However, 5949 and 5977 still have the nameplate.

Well those two were some of the first Orions that were repainted.

I wouldn't be surprised if the policy of not displaying manufacturer's logos has spread to MTA Bus.  To be honest, those Orion logos did look much more tacky on the repainted Orions, like someone painted over them with silver.

To get back to the origin of the thread, however, I must say that 5943 is now repainted, spotted in Jamaica (while I was in a Duane Reade).

5947 has not been repainted yet but it was stripped of it's old paint and will most likely get painted in the coming days, I'm sure we'll see it next week.

Seems like the only buses getting repainted lately are the Ex-GBL Orions.  I wonder why a TMC from either LGA or JFK has not been repainted yet?  If 7204 is a training bus, that should be redone 1st.

Speaking of 7204, whoever is the trainer at LGA really likes this area in Brooklyn, as I have seen that bus (and 9711) doing training in Spring Creek.

Please add 9745 to the list.  Spotted it on the Q33 tonight.  However, there are huge numbers on the front and sides.  The rear numbers are spaced out.  I give up!  They'll never get it right!
Unfortunately, no pics were taken.  I'll try again tomorrow and /or Saturday.

I saw 5947 repainted today on the Q60, without a working sign.

Add 7239 and 7241 to the list. I have been seeing them on the QM1/QM1A and Q65A routes all this week. On the other hand, 7239 don't have the depot sticker yet

Scratch 7402 off of the list.  It's still in the Ex-NYBS Scheme.
Add 5947 5982 and 7247 to the list.  Saw them at their respected depots today in blue and white.
IDK what JFK is doing with the numbering of their buses but it looks hideous.  5   9   4   7
What's this all about?  Get the numbers together!  I hate when they look like that!

Damn you beat me to it on the 7247 part. It was in service this morning on the QM1 Wall St run as I took 7247 in. However the signs where not on and the b/o did not put a paper sign up!

7233 is already on the list.  And yes it's repainted.
I think 5984 will soon be added to the list.  It's in the same exact spot as 5947 was before it got its repaint.

Is there any reason why we have not seen any Ex-GBL, JBL or TCC TMC RTS repainted into blue and white?
9745, an Ex-QSC, was the last TMC RTS that was repainted.
7204 should be repainted.  If that bus is strictly used for training purposes, I don't understand the logic of not repainting it.
Also, haven't seen or heard any updates on the SC/Ex-Command Orion CNGs getting done either.
731 741 and 749 are the only ones that have been done over.

MTA Bus seems to focus on doing buses in groups.  - the ex-QSC RTS and Orions, the ex-NYBS cruisers, the lift-equipped Classics.  Lately it's been the ex-TCC and ex-GBL Orion V's.

I'm not sure what's up with the ex-JBL buses, but many of the Triboro and Green TMC RTS's were in rough shape compared to their College Point siblings.  I wouldn't be surprised if a number of those buses end up getting junked after being replaced by ex-NYCT buses bumped by the new O7's.

There are four ex-JBI TMC RTSs painted blue and white (1173, 1178, 1189-1190), but the painting was done by JBI rather than MTA Bus (therefore it's slightly different...)

I have noticed a slight difference on the paint job. 1189 is now at LGA awaiting rollsigns. BTW that is a very nice shot.

You would think the Kennedy, Rockaway and LaGuardia TMC's would have went into the paint shop before the other units but these units could use some work on them. The Kennedy and Rockaway diesel Orions look very sharp on the outside, the interiors still look pretty awful.

However, when many of the former GBL (and the former TCC ones that were repainted and not retaped) O5s have gone in for repainting (and it looks as though repainting is being done at Kennedy), windows are also being replaced along with new paint being applied.
