Saw 2 hybrids on the Q10 today...it was weird, especially the signs, they're pretty big, as opposed to the ones I always see on NYCT which are smaller.

I saw 3572 on the Q10 as well as a 356X, didn't catch the last number and I saw 3558 at Union Turnpike ready to go.

Hey Jamaica,

3560s fairbox wasn't working, you guys giving them brokenfareboxes?
They get back the very same fareboxes that they send over to our garage to install on the Hybrids.  On a side note 3550 failed its inspection and will be staying at Baisley Park until Orion comes down and fixes whatever is wrong with it.

thats funny. a brand new bus fails its inspection. well i bought one chrylser product since 1971. a 1971 plymouth road runner. nice to look at but nothing but trouble, overheated driving it home. the first nycta bus i drove in 1979 on flatbush av did the same thing. i found out when i saw steam coming from the engine. ta never told students about breakdowns or what to do in case of same.

wow i must be psychic. in a previous post i predicted march delivery to casey stengal. tom maley confirmed this in another thread on this site. he said 70 buses so that would mean 12 less for eny unless nyct opted for moe than 216.

It certainly was.  Once again it looks like Spring Creek gets screwed again.  We lost 3549 if JFK put a sticker on it.  None of our Hybrids have depot logos on them.  I don't know, something tells me that they may not stay here.  They didn't run out of stickers since every time an Orion CNG rolls out the paint shop it gets new ones applied to it.  Shoot not even the RTS's we got have depot logos on them.

I could have sworn I've seen a logo on a Hybrid on the B103 last Friday (12/15). Can you find that out if you guys are keeping your Hybrids, "Flxible 9314"? Thanks in advance.

Hey,

Jamaica I was just kidding about the farebox. What part of the inspection did 3550 fail? Are there any more Hybrids at Baisley ready to go to JFK, if not when do YOU think the rest of the 25 will come in, I assume sometime after tuesday unless they make sat deliveries too.

yup. JFK got O7's now. Found out this morning when 3549 was in Rockawat for training with a JFK logo. Wasn't that bus in Spring Creek when it was delivered?

well down here in the Rock the only buses with logos are the MCI's. we only have 3 RTS' and 1 O5 repainted and no stickers. Hey Flx. didnt ya'll get rid of all but 2 or 3 RTS' and basically have nothing but hybrids for the B100 and B103?

Deficit or Surplus?

WWW
« Reply #87 on: December 24, 2006, 03:52:10 PM »

I talked with a couple of drivers who said they like the HEVs and said that people usually don't move all the way back anyway. I got to thinking how true this was so I went to Union Turnpike to check out the Q46 and it was bad. There were probably at least 10Rts that were crowded to the door and one person standing in the back with what looked like 5 open seats. The HEV was very similar except for the 1 I saw where there were people standing all the way in the back, that bus was overcrowded. So, basically, I think that you can fit the same number of people, except more standing room in the HEV but nobody moves to the back.
When I take the Q46 in the morning it is often packed to the brim...many times so much that there isn't even standing room in the back of the HEV's...and oftentimes whether people go to the back depends on the driver. Some won't move the bus until people move back.
To the best of my memory, the Q46 morning runs with the HEVs would result in that. Fortunately my stop is before Main Street, so I don't have to deal with the madness of constantly saying "Excuse Me" while squishing my way to the back.

On the topic of HEVs being delivered to JFK, my brothers saw one on the Q10. Remings me of my first topic (poll rather) on the 'old' BTN (which you can't see in the archive forum - if it still exists - since the archive was from before I joined).

Anyone know if HEVs will ever make it to the Main Street routes (Q20 A/B, Q44, Q74)?

6770 and 6775 are manhattanville loaners. you will receive training on them. 6781 at castleton is another loaner. castleton drivers were told hybrids would arrive late 2006. mtv shipment complete. its anyones guess where the next buses will go.

Those are "loaners" from MHV. They are in our yard for mechanic and driver training. Stengel should start to see delivery of their Orion 7's in March.

I wouldn't be surprised if you started getting those buses in February at the rate the delivery is going. Right now, ENY is next and JFK is just about done with their order.

It probably was 714. It was dark, rush hour, and my mind was at other places at the time. didnt even think about taking a picture. But it was in Command colors and had the SC logo. Sorry for the confusion.

Wow! I knew it! Baisley Park probably handles ANY new bus that comes into the MTA Bus system (fareboxes, etc.) and then ship them out to whichever depot that bus is assigned to. Glad to see that LaGuardia is getting NEW equipment.

Well I finally rode a JFK Hybrid, it was 3571 on the Q 10. It was a great bus (still new bus smell). I love the new interior since it gives more space to the rear rather than the previous batch which cramped it up.  Also, the floor is fluted (like the RTS's), that was definitely a plus for the bus. It was much better than that sandpaper junk at QV (no offense BK Cheesy). I also noticed that there were no beakie boxes, maps, or ads.  The bus wasn't as loud as the QV batch but it was definitely a fast bus. I also saw another hybrid that was on the limited but for some reason it said "Q 10A Limited", is that what they call it now? Anyways the bus was great and I hope it lasts long and its great for the people of Queens but I noticed that people weren't used to the tape and the red buttons. Its funny some people put there arms right over me to try and reach the tape while the red button was right in front of them. Well maybe they will get it soon but overall again it was great.

That's because the Hybrids at QV and now at MV (well about four left at MCH) are 2004 models. Since that delivery, Orion has toned them down...I think. So they sound better now.

They definitely did lower the noise level - I got on a 2005-2006 Manhattanville HEV and it was quiet. My brother, who is not a transit geek but seems to follow along with me in some aspects, noted that the new builds are quieter and the interior got some new styling. I need to get on one sometime.

I wouldn't mind that. The TMC's we have already are still in GBL or JBL colors. And i like the D.C. rejects. Green Lines was the only company that received O5's to different specs than the rest of the city.  Im just waiting to see all blue in that depot one day. I dont mind the fleet we keep getting.

I can confirm that the new batch of Hybrids definitely is fast. I haven't ridden one personally but I have seen them fly by down Lefferts and it was definitely fast.

BTW, you mentioned a fluted floor. I rode on a Hybrid on the Q58 on Saturday, and it had fluted floors, but still the older Hybrid rear design. It also had a few other minor differences like a Stop Requested sign further up in the front of the bus, as well as the one in normal Hybrid position. Does anyone know if those are newer and why they are a bit different?

It seems they have fixed the problem somehow now, but I remember earlier in the school year, the Q46 was so packed after the first stop that it didn't even bother stopping by the courthouse...

R27/30: The Q58 you were on was likely one of the 3 odd ball FP Orion VII's: 6737, 6738 or 6739.  These are 2006 models and probably be moved to Mother Clara Hale eventually.  It will fit right in to their numbering scheme, but you never know.

2-5?!  What the hell are they doing over at that depot?  My goodness!!!
They better get their act together!

Perhaps they couldn't find their ladders...  Or legs.

It was probably dirty because we had a big snowstorm in Central New York yesterday and these buses typically take I-81 south on the trip from Oriskany.

I guess Far Rock has to do with the '85 GMC's for a little while longer. It's ok though. the mechanics keep them running! I like to call them the "miracle workers"!
I don't mind those, I actually prefer them over these hybrids. I will miss the extra seats [2x2 vs. 2x1 + loss of additional seats]. The Q35 is a pretty long ride to be standing most of the way especially Brooklyn to Queens.

Confirmed sighting of 2 hybrids on the Q35 today 3579 and 3592 [both were signed up with "Flatbush Av"] but I think they were still just testing as they were empty. But I guess this means there are at least these two at Far Rockaway depot as well now. :-(
Say it isn't so.

Excellent thanks. Also if you see any b/o please ask if the Q35's are going to run hybrids soon or not. I still hope not yet as I prefer the RTS's.

Since Far Rock is getting their O-7s, I guess that means more TMCs to LGA. Cool.

Why are you thinking that more TMCs will head to La Guardia?  As of now, that will not be the case.
There are GMCs at Far Rock, JFK and LGA that need to be replaced.  Since each local depot is starting off with 25 buses, the TMCs will be staying put for now.  As the depots receive more Orion 7s, then PERHAPS TMCs will be transferred here and there.
The Orion 7s are basically replacing all of the remaining GMC RTSs and 2-doored MCI Classics.
BTW The 117Xs that are at LGA-they are not staying there.  From what I heard, they are there only for HSOs.  Then they will be shipped BACK to their original depot.  Hence the reason why I spotted 1172 AND 1173 on the Q11 during this week.
Also on a side note, 9971 is at LGA and has been at LGA for quite some time now.  I'm guessing it is there for the same reason why 1172-1173 were at LGA.

Far Rock is up to 9 Orion 7's as of this morning.
3576, 3577, 3578, 3579, 3581, 3585, 3590, 3592 and 3593.
In the mix, on a side note, was TMC 1173.
I guess FR was next to get hybrids. LGA is most likely next to get the new buses.

seen on the gowanus xway today were 3580.3583,3597 and 3598 evidently heading to baisley park and then far rockaway. a strange route to take from upstate ny through staten island to queens unless these buses are being first delivered to add at piscataway. anyone know.

So I take it now the O5's are now all going back to being exclusively for the express buses? Or have they started to scrap the remaining GL RTS's?

Are any HEVs going to be brought over to College Point? I don't recall seeing anything about that here or on the streets.

No. All the Express Runs are MCI cruisers and the 4 O5 suburbans. All the other O5 are local service. Expect the '85 RTS' to go bye bye. BTW, the oldest bus you can spot at FR now are the TMC's

NO. Why doesn't Spring Creek take their CNG's and reseat them for local service. You should see how the buses look with the LIB seats that smell like trash and don't even fit properly on the bus. At the front there is a loss of a seat on each side and they crammed an extra forward facing row which eliminates all legroom.

I agree with you an it really should be 2x1 seating. Also the reason for the smell is that these seats were left outside through elements which cause the smell.

My mistake on this post. I spotted 6 1985 RTS' today in the FR depot. 1 just came back at that time from a run. The others look like they were sitting in the lot all day. GMC's are still there, but don't expect them to see much service in the coming weeks.

A #53xx RTS?  Wouldn't that make that bus a Nova RTS?  It might have been a #58xx RTS instead instead.
